There are idle vans today. A situation believed to be without precedent was brought about through the new tenants' relief laws passed by the City Assembly. Last year people who wanted to move had to make 'move reservations' weeks or months in advance and pay extraordinary prices. This morning President Charles Morris of the Von Owners' Associationdeclared that in spite of the employee strike, the number of vans ready for service was greater than the association declared. Nearly 4,000 families had to move before noon. But no one has to move now, thanks to the new law.

Cars collide almost every day, but it's not every day that the driver of one who deals in milk and butter and the driver of the other in eggs. It sounds rather like an omelet on the highway. The accident happened last Sunday night. Just outside of the Green Leaf Breakfast cafe.

Otto Haag Arrested After Chase by Another Officer Who Heard Smashing of Showcase.


Patrolman Vincent, of the EastFifty-first Street Station, was walking along his beat at 3 o'clock yesterday morning when he heard the tinkle of falling glass. He saw a man dart across the sidewalk ahead of him, gave chase, and finally caught him in a hallway at 959 Third Avenue. The prisoner was identified as OttoHaag, a suspended policeman of the East Eighty-eighth Street station. The crash of glass had been caused by the smashing of a showcase in the jewelry shop of Harry Rozenweig', at 1085 Third Avenue. In the doorway of the shop were found several cheap watches and jewelry.

CHARLEY DAKROTT VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK

About midnight last night, the wife of Charley Dakrott, CEO of Dakrott Automobile Manufacturing Company, realized her husband was dead. Charley Dakrott was the last of the old school of whispering CEOs. He abhorred the direction government was forcing auto manufacturers, and for years, had been one of the behind-the-scenes directors of the Automobile Lobbying Association. He was a believer in the principle that consumers should have an automobile that they can afford and that the government should get out of the way of that pursuit. His company was running well, but some suggest major strife inside the company, as major players continued to eat away at his market share. Doctors suggest that the stress of running a car company may have caused the heart attack that killed him.

EILTNTER'S CASE DISMISSED BY THE HIGHEST TRIBUNAL


Laurens County Man Must Serve Eight Years in Penitentiary for Killing of Eldred Copeland.


George Washington Hunter, of Laurens county, must serve a sentence of eight years in the penitentiary or the murder of Eldred Copeland. The court dismissed the appeal Monday because the court had no jurisdiction in the case. The local supreme court affirmed the case. Hunter's lawyers appealed the case to the national supreme court on the ground that he was denied the right of being tried in the county in which the alleged crime was committed. Several days ago, Attorney General Lyon filed with the court notice of motion to dismiss the case on account of lack of jurisdiction or to affirm it. Following the conviction, Hutner's lawyers appealed to the court. And the court affirmed the sentence of eight years.

Dr. John G. Black Dead.

Dr. John G. Black died at the home of his son Mr. Clarence J. Black at Blacksburg early Sunday morning following a long period of ill health. Dr. Black was the son of William C. Black, one of the most eminent statesmen that Gear City. He was 73 years of age and was born in Gear City. Dr. Black is survived by the following children: Messrs. Roland and C. J. Black of Dirt Town; Dr. B. G. Black of Dorkville; Mesdames Lila Nicholls. Greenwood and Lucille Gear City

House Fire Outside of Town


About five o'clock Sunday morning, a tenant house was burned on the farm of Mr. Walter Sawyer on the outskirts of the town. The night patrol seeing the fire and brightly lighted sky, at first thought the fire was in town, and the ringing of fire bells aroused many. No one was hurt in the fire, but the house is a total loss.

CELEBRATES HUMANE LAW


Society Harks Anniversary of First Act for Animals.


A celebration of the anniversary of Richard Martin's achievement, the activist who forced the first law in the world to prevent animal cruelty, was held Friday night by the Humane Education Society at a meeting in the Public Library. Charles Edward Russell reviewed the progress in humane affairs and pointed out cruelties that ought to be eliminated, particularly vivisection. Commander Breck. U. S. N. advocated laws for the suppression of the steel traps used in catching fur-bearing animals in favor of devices that insure instant death. Miss Virginia Sargent read an original poem.
