Oil Prices Reach All-Time Highs![]() Fueled by an increased China demand, chaos in the middle east, declining value of the dollar, and speculation, oil prices have reached an all-time high. The price slowly crept up the last five years and has reached the point where it is impacting the economy and auto sales negatively. Leading experts expect prices to continue to climb over the summer months. After July, there may be a chance for a price decline. WOMAN IN CAR IS ATTACKEDPrivate Chauffeur, Husband of Victim Had Quarreled With Her.Anna Carlson, twenty-two years old, was found partly conscious inside a limousine on 111 Drive and Seemore South Street at 8 o'clock this morning by Frank Hill. Mr. Hill was driving home from the city when he noticed the girl in the car. He took the girl to the St. Ouchy Hospital, where it was found that her skull was fractured. Lieutenant Noll of the 177th Street Station visited the hospital and talked to the young woman. She said she had been separated from her husband, Harry McCormick, a private chauffeur, for some time and had been living with her mother and earning her own living. Her husband intercepted her on her way to work this morning, she said. And he invited her to ride downtown with him. McCormick became angry when she refused to listen to his plea to take him back, and he threatened her. She lost consciousness during the quarrel and did not know how her head was hurt. In the tonneau of the car, the police found a blood-stained crank handle. The cushions and floor were disarranged as though by a violent struggle. A warrant has been issued for Mr. McCormick's arrest. |

NO EVICTIONS TAKE PLACE IN THE CITYExodus Which Would Have Been a Reality Forestalled. INSTRUCTION TO COURT Leases Signed Under Duress Will Not Hold in Court! Old Rents to Stick. There are idle vans today. A situation believed to be without precedent was brought about through the new tenants' relief laws passed by the City Assembly. Last year people who wanted to move had to make 'move reservations' weeks or months in advance and pay extraordinary prices. This morning President Charles Morris of the Von Owners' Associationdeclared that in spite of the employee strike, the number of vans ready for service was greater than the association declared. Nearly 4,000 families had to move before noon. But no one has to move now, thanks to the new law. Story continues on page 3. |
